Summer on Bee Cave Road: What's Actually Changing in Westlake

If you've lived in the Eanes district for more than a few years, you already know the local geography isn't organized around a downtown. It's organized around one road. Almost every meaningful change in Westlake this spring and summer has landed within a three-mile stretch of Bee Cave Road, from the Camp Craft intersection out past Cuernavaca. That's the pattern worth noticing.

Not the Hill Country Galleria. Not 360. The old two-lane spine that runs past Eanes Elementary and Westlake High is quietly consolidating into the neighborhood's actual main street.

The Corridor, Address by Address

Here is what has moved along Bee Cave Road and its immediate feeders in the last several months.

Look at that column of dates. It's not a construction cycle. It's a corridor tightening.

The Hotel Everyone Is Calling by a New Name

The largest single shift is the reopening of the former Marriott Westlake as The Ricardo Marriott, which reopened to the public on April 1, 2026 after a rebrand named for Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta, with updated dining options and amenities. The hotel now features a signature restaurant helmed by a local chef, plus a lobby bar and lounge built around craft cocktails and small plates. A grand opening celebration for the community and media was scheduled for April 15, 2026.

For residents, the practical read is simple. The lobby bar is walkable from a chunk of the neighborhood that previously had almost nowhere to sit down for a drink that wasn't inside a country club or a chain. If you have out-of-town family in July, that's now the closest polished option that isn't a fifteen-minute drive.

What Opened Between February and April

Three quieter arrivals shaped the everyday routine more than the hotel did.

Peoples Wellness, formerly Peoples Rx, reopened Feb. 2 in a new Bee Cave Road location, offering personalized wellness consultations, medication compounding, a full-service pharmacy, and wellness products. The business had previously operated at 4201 Westbank Drive. The relocation kept the same team in the neighborhood but repositioned them onto the main artery, which matters if you were used to the Westbank Drive parking lot.

Just outside the immediate 78746 line, Lake Hills Antiques and Vintage, owned by Jeff and Heidi Beal, held its soft opening Feb. 20 to 22 across from the Hill Country Galleria, next to The Cigar Vault in the same center as the Planet K Texas gift shop. It's a small store, but it's the first curated vintage option most Westlake residents can reach without driving into 78704.

And on the anniversary side, Mandola's Italian Kitchen marked 20 years of serving Texas on March 3, having first opened in North Austin's The Triangle in 2006 before expanding to Southwest Austin, Bee Cave, and Cedar Park. The Bee Cave location is the one Eanes families actually use for weeknight pasta.

What's Landing Next

The near-term additions confirm the corridor thesis rather than complicate it.

Postino appears to be adding a location in the Village Shopping Center at 701 South Capital of Texas Highway, Building J, based on signage photographed in late March 2026. The chain has been methodical about Austin. The Bryker Woods opening was Postino's second Austin location, following the South Lamar cafe that opened in November. A Village location would be the first sit-down wine bar concept at that intersection, which currently reads as banks, a grocery store, and a handful of quick-service tenants.

Farther west, a permit was filed for a new 1,300-square-foot Teriyaki Madness on Bee Cave Road, with construction estimated to be completed by the end of March, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Small footprint, high turnover, the kind of tenant that fills a strip center gap without changing character.

The municipal building anchors the whole thing. It sits on about three acres of flat land at 4010 Bee Cave Road, across from Eanes Elementary School, and had its ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025. If you drive past at 8 a.m. now, the pattern is visible: parents dropping off at Eanes, city staff parking across the street, and a signalized intersection at Camp Craft that finally works for pedestrians. That signal is new too.

A Note on What Closed

The League Kitchen & Tavern closed Feb. 25 after 15 years in the area, having served American-style cuisine including burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, confections, and cocktails. Fifteen years in this neighborhood is a real run. The space it leaves behind is exactly the sort of footprint the Postino model has been colonizing across Texas, so watch it.

The Weekend Layer

The programming calendar is doing something the businesses can't do on their own, which is give people a reason to actually walk the corridor instead of driving through it.

The City of West Lake Hills 4th of July Parade & Celebration is Saturday, July 4, 2026, and it uses the same Bee Cave Road frontage that the new municipal building faces. Park once at the Village, walk to the route, and you've done the neighborhood on foot.

The libraries are the other anchor. Westbank Library sits at 1309 Westbank Drive between 360 and Bee Cave, across from Westlake High School, and Laura's Library sits at 9411 Bee Cave Road at the Cuernavaca light, together serving a district that roughly aligns with the Eanes School District. The district operates two libraries, the Westbank Community Library, originally built in 1989, and the Laura Bush Community Library, opened in 2009, each about 15,000 square feet, and Westbank was established as the first library district in the state of Texas.

On the summer calendar, Laura's Library is hosting an exhibit of work by Barton Creek Elementary School students, with all grade levels from Kindergarten through 5th represented across 18 students' pieces chosen by BCE art teachers Leslie Abbott and Courtney Jerome, and a reception on July 18 at 2 PM to celebrate the young artists. It's the kind of small, specific event the neighborhood shows up for.

The Westlake Chamber calendar for the same week reinforces the point. A ribbon cutting for West Austin Pet Hospital is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14, 2026, with the Business Builder Lunch on Monday, July 13. None of this is destination programming. It's neighborhood scaffolding.

What This Means for the Everyday

If you moved to Westlake for the schools and the trees, none of the individual updates above will change your life. Taken together, though, they change the geometry of a normal Saturday.

Five years ago, a resident errand run typically meant crossing Loop 360 to the Galleria for anything past groceries. This summer, the same run can happen inside the Eanes lines. Pharmacy consultation at Peoples Wellness, coffee and a chapter at Westbank Library, kids' art reception at Laura's, dinner at Mandola's, a nightcap at the Ricardo Marriott lobby bar. Add Postino at the Village when it opens, and the corridor genuinely competes with the choices most people were driving elsewhere for.

The neighborhood didn't get bigger. Bee Cave Road got denser.

A Practical Weekend Sequence

For anyone actually planning a Saturday around this stretch:

• Morning: Storytime or the community garden at Westbank Library, 1309 Westbank Drive.
• Late morning: Coffee and a walk through the new municipal building grounds at 4010 Bee Cave Rd.
• Lunch: Mandola's Italian Kitchen at the Bee Cave location.
• Afternoon: Drive out to Lake Hills Antiques and Vintage across from the Galleria, then loop back via Laura's Library at 9411 Bee Cave for the 2 PM student art reception on July 18.
• Evening: Cocktails at the Ricardo Marriott lobby bar.

That itinerary was not possible last summer. It is now.
